Beauty Favorites and Not So Favorites -- March/April 2012

Hey guys, I always keep saying I'm off hiatus but then I end up getting busy and then I don't post for awhile. Well I've been looking forward to doing this post for a couple weeks ago but lately been dreading posting it because it's going to be so long because I refuse to do this in a video. The only reason I refuse to do this on video is lack of filming equipment, some place to actually film it at, and privacy. Also because I would feel totally embarrassed if people I knew found the videos and yeah, just being a little insecure about that. So this post will be a little long since I'm using pictures and typing everything out -- but then again, I've had a lot of other looooooong posts. So here it goes, my beauty favorites and not so favorites of March/April 2012!

Favorites

Fan Brush / e.l.f. High Definition Powder -- I use the fan brush with the high def. powder and I love the lighter coverage it has rather than just a regular powder brush since the high def. powder is white but is such a fine powder, you don't need much. It makes my skin feel so satin-y soft. I'm in love with it.
e.l.f. Eyebrow Stencil Kit / Eyebrow Kit (Powder and Wax) -- The stencil pictured here is the one I use (and you can see the foundation smudges on it since I do my eyebrows after my foundation routine). I love how the wax perfectly matches my eyebrow color and doesn't make them look obviously fake. The stencils definitely make them look even more natural since I have two of the same eyebrows (haha!)
Tea Tree Oil from The Body Shop -- I love The Body Shop and I'm a huge supporter of them and I usually get the Tea Tree Night Blemish Fade lotion but they were out of stock when I was totally out, so I got this instead. I don't think I'm going back to the night lotion. I bought it just last month and I'm already running out. I use it twice per day, after I wash my face morning and night. It's really helped make a difference in my skin. I have been suffering from acne since I was 8 years old, so for 12 years now and it's taken me since just last year to find the perfect routine and products for my skin. (if you guys want a post about my skin care routine, let me know! I love talking about beauty stuff, as well as fashion, of course!)
NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Foundation -- For the longest time I had been looking for a full coverage, oil-free/matte finish, inexpensive, cruelty-free foundation that matched my skin tone (I have yellow undertones and most drugstore foundations have pink undertones leaving the skin on my face and neck look unnatural. When I found this and read that it's full coverage, oil-free, cruelty-free, I was immediately excited. I was dreading to look at the price, though. Then I looked down and it was $7.50. I was immediately sold. I was searching youtube for reviews of the foundation and only really looked at one because there weren't that many and the beauty-guru gave a bad review on it, she said she already had oily skin and it made her even more oily but she didn't want to discourage anyone on trying it. So I bought it, hoping it would do that I hoped and I tried it on as soon as I got it in the mail and it works better than I expected!! Even after wearing it all day and then working, it still has the matte finish it promised. 5 stars, for sure.
Coconut Oil Hair Shine from The Body Shop -- I bought this product on a whim and it was definitely worth it. I am obsessed with the smell and how crazy shiny it makes my hair. It made me so obsessed with the coconut smell that I wanted a coconut body spray and a coconut scented candle. Everything coconut.
Naked 2 palette -- My boyfriend bought this for me because I had been wanting it for awhile, I was so excited to play with the colors when I got it. I love the golds, especially. The colors are so pigmented and don't crease on your eyelids throughout the day. Quality eyeshadow can do wonders. My only complaint, which seems to be the most common and only complaint, is that I wish that there were more matte shadows in it.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil -- I love, love, LOVE these colors. Lust looks especially cool when drawn over a black cat-eye eyeliner. They definitely do last all day, it's actually a little bit of a pain to take off but makeup remover can fix that.

Not So Favorites

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Primer -- For an $8 primer, I was initially excited about it. This was a big mistake for my oily, acne-prone skin. This is just way too slick for my skin type and after a few weeks, it made me break out on my forehead and they have been really stubborn and a pain in my ass to get rid of. I would only recommend to people with dry skin, maybe normal skin. But definitely to no one with acne-prone skin as well as people with oily skin.
Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer -- I had heard good things about this primer so I decided to try it out. Even with medium coverage foundations, it make it cake up all over my face. I had to buff those parts of my face off with a makeup sponge so my foundation could look somewhat natural (medium coverage foundations suck for my skin, I absolutely need a full coverage foundation to cover my acne scars).
Rimmel Special Eyes eyeliner -- I only use brown eyeliner for my eyebrows (but since I got that eyebrow kit and stencils from e.l.f., I don't think I'm going back to pencils) and usually I stick with those cheap NYC eyeliners from the drugstore but I accidentally picked this one up in it's place (someone had put it back in the wrong spot and I was in a hurry and I thought this was an NYC eyeliner). I was excited because it was darker than normal (and then I looked at the packaging to see it wasn't NYC but it was Rimmel, I didn't really care though). The reason why I don't like this eyeliner is because it was waaaaaay too waxy and was a pain in the ass to keep sharpening it all. the. time. Was not worth the money at all.

Untitled #195

Off hiatus

Hey guys! I have been extremely busy for the past few months, I know I promised a makeup review back in November but I never got around to it because I got sooooo busy and then I got a job back in January and I've also been going to school and using up my free time hanging out with friends and my boyfriend.

So, I just ordered some makeup items that I'm really excited to try out, so in a couple to a few weeks I will review those for you guys, they most likely won't end up being videos, though.

I will try and make other type of posts other than just outfit posts from polyvore (which I see I haven't made since late Novemeber; I really have been busy!)

So whomever still reads my blog, bear with me and I will try to post things whenever I can!

:)
